Official Search for Missing Man Called Off

The official search for William Exner was called off yesterday but teary-eyed family members said if "Willie is out there" they want to hear from him.

They have no theories about what happened after the 23 year old disappeared on Sept. 18, 2005.

"You can think about any potential thing out there," said older brother Iain Exner. "At the end of the day, nobody knows. You're left hanging on theories."

Exner said his brother was acting perfectly normal in the days before he disappeared.

"He came back travelling from India in a great state of mind," said Exner. "He graduated with an Engineering Degree from UBC. His clothes were picked out for a Monday job application."

Exner's father-in-law, Ken Georgetti, President of the Canadian Labour Congress, said family and friends will keep searching.

"We have canvassed every possible quadrant of the city, from the Endowment Lands to Stanley Park," said Georgetti. "There's nowhere else to look. We will do everything we can to keep this alive till we find him."

Said Iain: "We're not going to stop looking for Willie ... It's up to Willie to come home ... if he's out there."
