Oakville, Ontario, July 4, 2005 – The volunteer organization “Swim of Hope” announced today that Anita Morrow will be swimming across Lake Ontario on the weekend of August 20-21, 2005 to raise funds for The Gatehouse®, Child Abuse Advocacy Centre. The 33 km swim will begin in Grimsby and end in Coronation Park in Oakville sometime after noon Sunday, August 21. Her swim is being monitored by Solo Swims of Ontario (SSO), who supervised her successful trial swim of 10 km in 6 hours on June 18, 2005.

As a youth, Anita Morrow was a competitive swimmer in her native Romania. The feeling of peace and tranquility that Anita experienced in swimming became her respite from the abuse she was enduring. Anita is using her love of swimming both to raise money for victims of child abuse and to raise awareness that the wounds from child abuse can be healed, at any age. Anita has been training since April 2004 for this marathon swim. The Gatehouse®, based in Toronto, provides victims of child abuse a safe, comfortable refuge and understanding support to children and their families during police and social services investigations.

Anita’s Swim of Hope is to “Help Heal the Victims of Child Abuse”.
